Mortal Kombat X, Batman: Arkham Knight Help Lift Warner Bros. Revenue-December 2024

Entertainment giant Time Warner has announced earnings for the quarter ended June 30, revealing that its Warner Bros. division--which houses the company's game business--had a strong period.

For the quarter, revenue in this department rose 15 percent ($428 million) to $3.3 billion. The uptick in revenue was attributed in part to higher video game sales from Mortal Kombat X and Batman: Arkham Knight, as well as better TV licensing performance from The Big Bang Theory and Seinfeld.

Operating income for the Warner Bros. division in the quarter was also on the rise, increasing 46 percent ($107 million) to $341 million.

Although Mortal Kombat X and Batman: Arkham Knight were specifically called out as top performers for the quarter, specific sales figures were not announced.

"For the first half of the year, Warner Bros. ranked as the top U.S. videogame publisher, and Mortal Kombat X was the No. 1 video game," Warner Bros. said.

Mortal Kombat X launched in April and enjoyed the "biggest launch" in franchise history. Arkham Knight debuted in June and was the best-selling game of the month in the United States.
