GayGamer.net back up and running
GayGamer.net back up and running-March 2024
Mar 18, 2025 1:20 PM

The self-explanatorily titled GayGamer.net had a rough weekend, first being hit by a series of denial-of-service attacks, and then shut down entirely in response to its chat room and message boards being flooded with hate speech.

GayGamer.net editor-in-chief Flynn De Marco told GameSpot it was the first time the site had experienced harassment on this scale. "When we first started we had a little trouble," De Marco said, "but nothing like this. You know, we got the typical...stuff sometimes in comments or on the forum, but certainly nothing to this degree." The site was back up Monday morning, having weathered the storm and announcing its return to active duty, fittingly enough, with the image of a rainbow. As for what the site will do to prevent being taken offline by such attacks in the future, De Marco said it will be upgrading the forums and revamping the chat room so it can be better moderated by users. "We started the site as just some guys making a Web site and we never really thought to have stuff like that in place," De Marco said. "Although of course in the back of my mind, I knew this would happen at some point."
