The Queen of England has granted game creator and the head of Lionhead studios Peter Molyneux an Order of the British Empire for his contributions to the game industry. "It's come completely out of the blue," he reportedly said, "I never would have guessed that I'd have that kind of honor." Molyneux is credited with creating the subgenre "god games," and his track record includes Populous, Black & White, and Fable. The award dates back to 1917 when King George V decreed that a special honor be given to those who helped the British Empire through World War I, and is now given to citizens as recognition of their services to Britain. Jez San, founder of now-bankrupt Argonaut, previously won the award in 2002.
