Microsoft Investigating Xbox Live Message Spam Issue
Microsoft Investigating Xbox Live Message Spam Issue-October 2024
Oct 21, 2024 8:03 PM

Noticed more Xbox Live message spam lately? You're not alone. The issue has now become so widespread that one of Microsoft's top consumer advocates has spoken out to address the issue, promising that the company is "working on it," and offering a temporary fix.

Mike Ybarra, Xbox partner director of program management, writes on Twitter: "Those asking about Xbox Live messages spam--we're working on it."

Ybarra suggested that Xbox users, as a temporary fix, select "friends only" from their privacy settings to weed out spam messages. He also stressed that users who receive spam messages should report them immediately, a process that should get easier next month.

BTW, please report ALL spammers on Xbox Live messages. We look at them, we boot them!!

Next month we'll make reporting spammers a lot easier in the UI - for those asking.

A quick search of the Xbox forums for "message spam" yields over one thousand results, with some users reporting that they are inundated with these messages. One user even says he's received 30 spam messages in two days. This has led some users to be concerned that their accounts have been, in some way, compromised.

Personally, I've received three Xbox Live spam messages in the past month, all of which had to do with offers for FIFA Ultimate Team coins.
