Microsoft Flight Simulator Sequel Is Coming In 2024, But You Can Play A Dune Crossover Later This Year-September 2024
Sep 21, 2024 6:50 PM

The sci-fi world of Dune is coming to Microsoft Flight Simulator later this year, just in time for the premiere of Dune: Part Two. In addition, a full-fledged sequel to the flight sim, appropriately titled Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, is coming next year.

Revealed during Microsoft's Xbox Games Showcase, a trailer accompanied by composer Hans Zimmer's Oscar-winning Dune score shows players will be able to take to the skies of Dune's titular desert planet, Arrakis, in one of the franchise's iconic ornithopter vehicles. It looks like players will be able to scout spice mining operations judging from a brief glimpse of a spice harvester out in the deep desert. Wherever there is spice, there are also bout to be massive sand worms, though we don't get a glimpse of one in this particular footage.

Now Playing: Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 Reveal Trailer | Xbox Show Showcase 2023

Flight Simulator's Dune crossover will arrive on November 3, the same day the second of Denis Villeneuve's Dune films arrives in theaters. A recent trailer for Dune Part Two gave fans their first glimpse at the conclusion to the two-part film, revealing hero Paul Atreides riding a sandworm for the first time and offering a first-look at new characters like Florence Pugh's Princess Irulan.

Despite the announcement of the sequel, it looks like the Dune crossover will only be coming to the current version of Microsoft Flight Simulator, at least for now. As for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, the sequel's debut trailer asks players to pursue their dream aviation careers, and calls Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 the next generation of the series. The sequel will add all-new activities, ranging from aerial firefighting and mountaintop rescues to skydiving operations and hot air balloon tours. Players will also be able to try their hand at industrial cargo transport, aerial construction, VIP charter trips, and more.

No specific release date for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 was given, but the game will be coming to Xbox consoles, Game Pass, and PC.
