Microsoft has announced a new product, but it's not an Xbox or a game. The company is releasing an Xbox-branded credit card in partnership with Barclays in the US.
The Xbox Mastercard, which has no annual fee, has a number of perks that might be alluring to gamers, like 5x card points on purchase from the Microsoft Store and 3x points on Netflix and Disney+. The card also offers 3x points on Grubhub and DoorDash orders and 1x points for all other purchases.
Additionally, card-holders get 5,000 card points, worth about $50, after their first purchase and three months of Game Pass Ultimate after their first purchase. Existing Game Pass subscribers can gift this subscription to someone else.
The Xbox MastercardThe Xbox Mastercard can be customized with one of five designs (see above), and there is also an option to personalize it with a gamertag. Microsoft did not say if this carries an additional fee.
The Xbox Mastercard will be available to Xbox Insiders in the US (sign up for free here) starting September 21. Everyone else can apply starting in 2024.
For more on the Xbox Mastercard, including details on interest rates and other key particulars, be sure to read the fine print. Among other things, it states that anyone whose Microsoft account is suspended or locked will lose access to account benefits, and this seemingly means that people who are jerks and violate Microsoft's code of conduct might lose their credit card perks.
The APRs for this card are 20.99%, 26.99% or 31.99%, based on creditworthiness.
