MicroProse has announced that it has completed both M1 Tank Platoon II and Ultim@te Race Pro, with both games available in stores by the end of the month. MicroProse is expected to ship at least 100,000 copies of each anticipated game to retailers to kick off what MircroProse is calling its "strongest line-up in the 15-year history of the company."
M1 Tank Platoon II is sequel to the original award-winning M1 Tank Platoon, a standard in modern military simulations and playability set by MicroProse way back in 1989. This time however, M1 Tank Platoon II features photorealistic cockpits, realistic battlefield environments, advanced AI, detailed texture-mapped terrain, and 3D-accelerator support. Plus, it was developed internally at MicroProse and was completed on time, which doesn't happen very often these days.
On the other hand, the slick racing game Ultim@te Race Pro was developed by Kalisto Entertainment, based in France. MicroProse claims that it will be one of the first arcade-style Internet racing games available.
"We remain focused and committed to releasing a very strong lineup of new products this year, and we are maintaining our current production schedules to ensure a powerful performance in fiscal 1999," said Stephen M. Race, CEO of MicroProse, in a statement. "In launching the sequel to M1 Tank Platoon, we have taken a large step to return to our heritage of creating the best simulations in the industry."
