Mega Man 11 Featuring New 2.5D Visual Style Announced, Launches Next Year-October 2024
Oct 25, 2024 9:35 PM

Most fans weren’t expecting all that much from today’s Mega Man 30th Anniversary Celebration livestream. Capcom has downplayed their baby blue mascot since series producer and co-creator Keiji Inafune left the company in late 2010. A few scattered re-releases and compilations aside, the once-prolific Mega Man series has been missing in action for most of the past decade. Well, the Blue Bomber’s exile is officially over, as Capcom has announced Mega Man 11. You can check out a first trailer for the game, below.

As you can see, Mega Man 11 is ditching the retro pixel art of the series’ last two entries, in favor of a polygonal 2.5D approach. Mega Man himself has also been given a makeover – he’s a bit less stumpy than before and will sport different outfits depending on which Robot Master’s power he’s using. Mega Man 11 producer Kazuhiro Tsuchiya had this to say about the big reveal…

We've had the fans wait foreeeeever, but your wishes have finally taken shape! We are currently in development of Mega Man 11. We'll have more information for you in the summer of 2018, so let's continue to celebrate the 30th anniversary and look toward the future.

It sounds like Mega Man 11 will be in good hands, as the game will be directed by Koji Oda, who’s been with Capcom since 1991 and worked on classics like Super Ghouls ‘n Ghosts and the original Resident Evil. The game’s art director will be Yuji Ishihara, who designed the characters for the Mega Man Battle Network and Star Force spin-off series.

In other news, Capcom announced Mega Man X Collection, which is coming to PC, Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch summer of 2018. They also revealed the previously-released Mega Man Legacy Collections 1 and 2 are being ported to the Switch. You can check out the archived Mega Man 30th Anniversary Celebration livestream, right here.

Mega Man 11 blasts its way onto PC, Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch in late 2018. Excited for the Blue Bomber’s long-awaited return? Can the game possibly live up to expectations?
