Rig may be terrible at picking up women in bars, but he's not as violently antisocial as he seems. Well, he may be violent, but at least he's well adjusted about it. Dead or Alive 5 developer Tecmo Koei describes Rig as an "important character in the storyline," as well as Bass' boss. He's also a tricky fighter to command or play against, and employs the same fighting style as Dead or Alive 5 guest star Sarah Bryant.

Rig is a practitioner of taekwondo, and his fighting style emphasizes powerful kicks and the one-legged flamingo stance. When asked how Rig's style differs from fellow taekwondo user Sarah Bryant's, the developers noted Sarah's strengths as speed and a "lack of openings." Rig, they said, has more raw power and superior reach. "He has mastered lighter, feint-like kicks, heavy-hitting fatal kicks, [and] flashy kick techs."
Rig's signature move, as chosen by his creators, is the rig tornado: a trio of spinning kicks. This attack can be performed only after the turning leg cut, a transition move to Rig's one-legged stance. As Rig is making the transition, pressing kick three times will carry the momentum into three spinning kicks. Turning leg cut can be performed by itself with forward plus punch and kick, or entered into offensively after pressing kick twice and then holding forward. You will need a bit of practice to perfect this technique, the developers noted, and it can be used to juggle opponents in midair.
A great move for getting your opponent airborne is the blowout. This throw is performed with a half-circle motion toward the opponent and grapple. Rig launches the victim high into the air, leaving you plenty of time to recover and prepare a follow-up assault. Another good utility move for Rig is the axe kick. This one of the few moves that end with Rig's back to his opponent. From this position he has a handful of powerful strikes that are otherwise unavailable.
It's worth noting that Rig's turning leg cut and one-legged stance each give him access to different sets of moves. As noted with the rig tornado, moves performed from the turning leg cut tend to carry the moves momentum into forward-hitting, rapid-fire kicks. The one-legged stance has a bit more flexibility. From it, Rig can grapple, strike with moves that end with him back in stance, or cancel the stance by pressing hold.

Dead or Alive 5's five-star breakdown of Rig's fighting style awarded him five stars for strikes; four stars for speed and moves; three stars for power; and one star for holds and throws. This martial mechanic wants to control the pace of the fight, moving between attacks that take him in and out of his different stances. Since it's easy to transition into a stance by accident, he is perhaps not the best character for newcomers. Rig, and the rest of the Dead or Alive 5 crew, will be ready to rumble when the game is released later this month.
