Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will host an open tournament just after the first set of remastered tracks drops into the game. The North American Open March 2022 tournament will take place March 25-27, and 24 players will get free gold points to spend in the Nintendo eShop.
To participate, you'll have to login during the tournament times and enter a code in the "Search by Code" menu under Online Play > Tournaments. The top eight players each day will get 2500 gold points, or roughly $25, to spend on eShop purchases.

Now Playing: Mario Kart 8 Remastered Courses DLC Trailer | Nintendo Direct February 2022
Probably not-so-coincidentally, the Booster Course Pass for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe costs $25. It's also included as part of the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pass, which includes N64 and Genesis games, along with Animal Crossing's Happy Home Paradise expansion, for $50 per year.
The announcement didn't mention if the new tracks will be part of the event, but it's doubtful since that would likely mean you'd have to pay to participate. That said, it will get players back into MK8 at the exact time Nintendo wants to promote its Booster Course pass.
The first wave of the Booster Course Pass is releasing this Friday, March 18. That will add eight remastered tracks, including Coconut Mall from Mario Kart Wii, Choco Mountain from Mario Kart 64, and Tokyo Blur from Mario Kart Tour. Another five waves will come by the end of 2023, adding 48 courses in all.
