Over the course of Mario's 25 years of existence, he has had a variety of occupations, aside from the obvious plumbing gig. He has raced karts, saved princesses, and enjoyed the spoils of a successful sporting career.
Mario's latest sports-themed outing--Mario Sports Mix--has today been given the green light for release by Nintendo Australia and is set to launch exclusively on the Wii on January 27, 2011. As is becoming a regular occurrence with first-party Nintendo releases, Mario Sports Mix will be released in Australia a week ahead of North America, where it's slated to hit shelves on February 7.
Developed by Square Enix, Mario Sports Mix features four sports--basketball, volleyball, ice hockey, and dodgeball--and supports competitive online play. Like in previously developed Mario games from Square Enix, several characters from the Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy universes, such as Slime and Black Mage, have slipped onto the character roster alongside the Nintendo favourites.
