Majesco gobbles up Jaws license
Majesco gobbles up Jaws license-March 2024
Mar 19, 2025 9:16 AM

Less than a week after VU Games announced it was turning Scarface into a game, Majesco has announced it is adapting a classic film. Ironically, that film is Jaws, one of the most successful movies in the library of VU corporate sibling Universal Pictures. Majesco announced that the game will be released in summer 2005--coinciding with the film's 30th anniversary--for the PC, Xbox, and PlayStation 2.

"Without a doubt, Jaws is one of the most revered classics of all time. The film's mixture of action, adventure, and suspense terrified the masses," said Majesco CEO Jesse Sutton. "The game will capture that same action and excitement as the movie, but this time, the shark enjoys some payback."

What exactly that payback will be is unclear. While screenshots of Scarface are very reminiscent of the heavily Scarface-film-influenced Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, what Jaws' gameplay will be is less clear. However, it will offer a twist, letting gamers play as the titular shark instead of hunting it. “We want to give players that same adrenaline rush as they control the power and the fury of a Great White," said Bill Kispert, vice president of interactive at Universal Studios Consumer Products Group.

Jaws will be developed by Appaloosa Interactive, a studio most famous for another, much-less-bloody underwater action game--Ecco the Dolphin. GameSpot will have more information on Jaws as the details surface.
