After confirming the existence of the collection earlier this month, publisher 2K Games has announced that the Mafia: Trilogy will drop on August 28 for PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
This means the "rebuilt-from-the-ground-up remake" of the original 2002 Mafia title will make its way to most platforms later this August, as it's one of the games bundled in the triple-pack. Those who pre-order the Mafia: Trilogy collection will get immediate access to the Definitive Editions of Mafia II and Mafia III. (It's worth noting that both of these are currently available as standalone purchases, retailing for $30 on the Microsoft and PlayStation stores and $40 on Steam.)
Mafia: Definitive Edition is the centerpiece of the Mafia: Trilogy. It's a complete remake of the critically acclaimed titled, replete with an updated script of new dialogue, expanded backstories, and additional cutscenes. Further, the Definitive Edition of Mafia also includes all-new gameplay sequences, features, and other enhancements, while using the same game engine that powered Mafia III's cinematics.
According to an official press release, the entire Mafia franchise has sold more than 18 million units worldwide across all platforms.
Players who already own either Mafia II or Mafia III will be automatically upgraded to the Definitive Editions of these titles, which comes packed with all the original bonus add-on content and remastered 4K-compatible visuals for Mafia II, at no extra cost. There is a catch, however. The Mafia II: Definitive Edition upgrade only applies to Steam players, while the Mafia III: Definitive Edition upgrade extends to PlayStation 4, Steam, and Xbox One users.
Players who pre-order either Mafia: Definitive Edition or the Mafia: Trilogy prior to its August 28 launch will get "The Chicago Outfit" pack. This bundle includes three exclusive bonuses for the Definitive Edition of Mafia: The Don player outfit, the Smith V12 Limousine vehicle, and the Gold Semi-Automatic weapon skin. And anyone who signs up for a free 2K Account gets three more bonuses for each game: the Black Cats Motorcycle Pack for Mafia: Definitive Edition, the Made Man Pack for Mafia II: Definitive Edition, and the Classico Three-piece Suit & IL Duca Revolver for Mafia III: Definitive Edition.
While the Mafia: Trilogy collection has been announced for PlayStation 4, Steam, and Xbox One, Epic Games and Google Stadia versions are said to be coming "at a later date."
