Wednesday, Acclaim Entertainment announced that its NFL Quarterback Club '98 N64 title ranked number one for all formats on the NPD Group's TRSTS Video Game Flash Report (which covers the first half of November). This past weekend, both companies ran an advertising blitz during football telecasts, with their spokesmen Brett Favre and John Madden respectively, calling their games the best.
While it may have Madden 64 beat (at the moment), the interesting part of it is the final October sales, which, according to the NPD group, has Madden beating Quarterback Club. That can be explained by Madden beating Quarterback Club to shelves by about five days, and that extra lead gave Electronic Arts the edge in the sales chart.
The October rankings only reflect a little more than a week of sales for both games, since they were released around October 24.
Acclaim Entertainment also told GameSpot News today that Extreme G showed up as number 13 in the first half of November TRSTS data.
