Nov 14, 2024 8:21 PM

The World Cyber Games, the Korean-based online gaming competition that has for the past four years taken place in Seoul, announced that the GameWorks facility in Long Beach, California, will host the US national finals. The competition will take place from September 17-19.

In Long Beach, the 25 members of “Team USA” will be decided. These players will have just a few weeks to practice before facing off against contestants from 64 countries at the international WCG 2004 Grand Final to be held in San Francisco. This event runs for five days, from October 6-10.

The competition in Long Beach will take place at a new 40,000 square foot high-tech entertainment and gaming facility adjacent to the Long Beach Aquarium. The Grand Final event will take place at the Bill Graham Civic Center in downtown San Francisco, and organizers say that $400,000 in prizes will be awarded to its winners.

The eight official WGC 2004 games this year are: Starcraft: Brood War, Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne, Counter-Strike: Condition Zero, Need for Speed Underground, FIFA Soccer 2004, Unreal Tournament 2004, Halo (Xbox), and Project Gotham Racing 2 (Xbox).
