Logitech Now Supports Linux
Logitech Now Supports Linux-November 2024
Nov 14, 2024 9:23 PM

The biggest operating system threat to Microsoft's Windows, Linux, has one more reason to cheer now that Logitech, the game controller and mouse maker, announced the release of Linux drivers for all of its WingMan digital game port devices.

Just about everything Logitech has out there is supported by the drivers. Here's a listing of supported devices: WingMan Extreme Digital joystick, WingMan Interceptor joystick, WingMan Warrior joystick, CyberMan 2 controller, WingMan Formula racing wheel with pedals, WingMan gamepad, and the Thunderpad Digital gamepad. Logitech says that the Linux community has supported its PS/2 and serial mice and trackballs for over a year, while its newest USB mice are supported in some of the newer developer releases.

Rather than develop the drivers internally, Logitech employed the talents of a programmer named Vojtech Pavlik to create the drivers. By cooperating with the Logitech engineers, all the drivers meet all of Logitech's hardware specifications.

"Logitech is one of the first companies to have released hardware specifications and given assistance in developing Linux human-input device drivers," said Vojtech Pavlik. "I hope that this will set a new trend."

"Gamers should be able to take advantage of these products on the operating system of their choice. We're very pleased that, with the excellent work of Vojtech Pavlik, Linux gamers can now do so." Said Fred Swan, director of marketing for Logitech WingMan products.

Logitech is allowing developers to tinker with the drivers' source code by downloading the code for free from Pavlik's site.
