Activision has announced that its upcoming world-building title, Civilization: Call To Power, will be one of the first commercially available titles for the Linux OS.
Loki Entertainment Software is hoping to have the Linux port completed for a simultaneous launch with its PC cousin sometime this spring. To say that the project is ambitious seems like an understatement. Loki plans to have a Linux version of Call to Power that looks identical to its PC cousin - new tools, options, combat, and graphics.
Pricing for the Linux version will be similar to the PC version. Activision will make the title available over the retail channel and for Internet download. With gamers moving over to the Linux platform, the announcement is a welcome one.
"We couldn't ask for a better title to launch a new game line and are committed to providing an identical port of the new release," said Scott Draeker, Loki president. "From our review of the code and working with the program, we think Activision has created a worthy addition to thebest-selling Civilization franchise. Linux users will be able to enjoy Civilization: Call to Power in the Linux environment with all the benefits that entails."
Loki Entertainment was founded last year as a development house hoping to port titles from the PC and Mac to Linux. Interestingly, the company derives its name from the Norse god of mischief - we can't wait to see what mischief the company will cause on Linux.
