Square Electronic Arts announced the release of Legend of Mana for the Sony PlayStation today. This hand-drawn 2D role-playing game places the player in the role of either a male or female lead who embarks on a quest to rebuild the world of Fa'Diel. Along the way, players will gain access to several unique realms and approximately 70 sub-events and mini-games. The essential object of the game is to discover powerful artifacts that are then placed on the world map to generate different regions of the Legend of Mana world. Players can then enter and explore these worlds, speak to the townspeople, battle monsters such as flying insects and dragons, and face off against an array of bosses.
Another unique feature of the game is the ability to customize spells and weapons. Spells are created in correlation with musical instruments built by the game's characters. Different spells are concocted depending on the type of instrument the player chooses to create. The wind-calling harp will summon a gust of air, while the water-bubble flute can unleash a massive tidal wave on enemies. Additionally, Legend of Mana features a simplistic monster-breeding mode, where players can corral eggs in their backyard. These eggs hatch and release pet monsters that can be used during battle.
Legend of Mana from SquareSoft is available now at all video game retailers.
