At today's Bloomberg Forum, Koei president Keiko Erikawa confirmed her company's plans to release GameCube and Xbox titles in this fiscal year. Koei expects to release one to two games for both consoles in that period, though the company's primary focus will remain on the Sony PlayStation 2 with such titles as Kessen III, Dynasty Warriors 3, Yanya Caballista, and the company's first baseball title.
Erikawa also expressed interest in the production of motion pictures based on game software. Companies such as Square are already developing CG motion pictures, but [Koei] investors were worried about development costs and profitability. "We don't intend to work on one unless we can have affordable development cost and are able to produce a good movie," Erikawa said. "We are working out that plan right now and strongly believe it can be done within the next three years."
Last March, GameSpot reported that one of the company's upcoming Xbox titles, Crimson Sea, might also be used as the basis for a motion picture. Though Koei's plans are not clear at this point, we hope to bring you more details in the future.
