The Journeyman series of games may be dead in the eyes of The Learning Company, but the series' developer Presto Studios has other plans for its flagship franchise. Presto's Greg Uhler told GameSpot News Tuesday that, "in truth, Red Orb has decided not to publish Journeyman sequels and has returned the rights to the developer, Presto Studios "
He continued and told us that "Presto will actively pursue finding a new publisher for this franchise." As to who that publisher might be, given that Presto's upcoming title Beneath is being published by Activision, it seemed natural to suppose Activision might take a role on The Journeyman Project 4 - currently in development at Presto. After speaking with Uhler, that seems unlikely. "We're going to look at a range of publishers," Uhler told us. He commented on the Presto model of working with a number of publishers so as not put too many eggs in the same basket a lesson most easily appreciated by a look at recent events with Red Orb.
Uhler added that Red Orb does have some rights to the series and that "they are looking to get back some of the development money," but that it's just a matter of time before full ownership of J4 reverts to Presto. Uhler concluded by stating the now obvious: "For Journeyman fans, they can keep hope alive!"
