The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. But for thatgamecompany's Journey, that first step will happen later than originally planned, as the studio has pushed its release window back to spring 2012.
Journey's destination is a little further away than previously thought. Jenova Chen, creative director for thatgamecompany, today announced the delay on the PlayStation Blog, saying there is "still a ton of care and polish" that the online adventure game needs before its release.
Previously, Journey was expected to arrive by the end of 2011. A closed beta for Journey ran from June to July this summer, and Chen called the trial period a "great success."
A follow-up to 2009's Flower, Journey casts players as a robed adventurer, wandering through an expansive desert world, journeying toward a distant mountain. Gamers will encounter other players on their way and benefit from tackling the game's challenges together.
