Legendary horror director John Carpenter is back on the scene with an anthology series for Peacock called Suburban Screams, and he has a message for people about it.

"I made a little series. If you don't like it, f**k off. If you do like it, I like you. So there you go," the Halloween director told Business Insider. He added, "I'm not a master of anything. I just want to play video games and watch basketball. That's all I care about doing. I don't want to bother anybody."

Asked why he decided to make the show at this stage of his career, Carpenter said, "It was fun. It didn't require too much of my time. It was a light commitment and I enjoyed telling the story."

Carpenter is known for being prickly and standoff-ish in interviews, and he lived up to that in the Business Insider interview. Asked if there was a project from his history that he wished more people asked him about, he said, "No, I don't care. I'd rather talk about basketball."

Carpenter was eating a popsicle during this interview.

Suburban Screams is an unscripted horror anthology series, with each episode focusing on "one true tale of terror," as told by the people who were there. "Their firsthand accounts are brought to life through premium cinematic scene-work, news clips, home photos, and archival footage, combining the visual language of horror films with the tools and techniques of documentaries, creating a uniquely frightening experience for viewers," Peacock said.

The series is streaming now on Peacock.
