Interview With ION Storm
Interview With ION Storm-October 2024
Oct 28, 2024 6:25 AM

Dallas' ION Storm heads to E3 with plans to launch their game Dominion: Storm Over Gift 3 as well as generate some buzz on Daikatana and other upcoming titles. GameSpot News got to ION's Tom Hall and Todd Porter about their E3 plans.

Hall is president of ION Storm, the designer and project leader for ION Storm's 3D sci-fi roleplaying game Anachronox. Porter is ION Storm's CEO. He leads the teams for the company's Dominion: Storm Over Gift 3 and Doppelganger projects.

GameSpot: Who are you sending to E3? What will they be doing there?Hall: We as a company are taking enough people to show off Dominion and Daikatana well. I personally am taking three people to show off Anachronox to press only, inside the Eidos booth.

GameSpot: What does ION Storm's itinerary for E3 look like? What do you hope to accomplish by going there?Hall: We want exposure for our two great products coming out this year, Dominion and Daikatana, as well as giving a sneak peek of our next title, Anachronox.Porter: Busy Busy Busy. We'll be there to show off Domionion and Daikatana!

GameSpot: How "finished" will Dominion be? Porter: Dominion is shipping. We'll be showing off the whole enchilada.Hall: Dominion will be a complete game.

GameSpot: How "finished" will Daikatana be? Will you show it as a playable demo, a couple finished levels or ...?Hall: It will be playable demo. Daikatana will be showing two levels from each time period, showing off four weapons for each of those time periods. Monsters will be in there. It's looking cool.

GameSpot: How important is E3 to your 1998-99 plans? Why?Porter: It's our launch site for Dominion and a preinfo on Daikatana. E3 is a great opportunity to show off what we've accomplished and to find out what's new in the industry....Hall: It is a good place to let everyone know what we are doing. Our goal is to make great games, but it's nice to give people a chance to see finished products, or games well on their way. I know I like seeing what everyone is doing, and this is a rare opportunity to see games live before they are released. The most important thing is to focus on winding up with a great game at the end of the development cycle, but E3 is obviously important in terms of public awareness.
