Although AI: Alien Intelligence was greatly hyped by Interplay during most of 1998, Rumors abounded on the Internet on Monday that Interplay has "suspended development" (a game development euphemism for "put on hold indefinitely") of AI: Alien Intelligence, a somewhat-anticipated real-time strategy game developed by Flatline Studios.
Reports are that Flatline Studios increasingly delayed or completely missed project milestones, and the constant delay of the product caused Interplay to dump it entirely.
Neither Interplay nor Flatline Studios has commented publicly, and no announcements have yet been made. For some time all mention of AI: Alien Intelligence has been removed from Interplay's web site, and Interplay staff members on the company's discussion boards refuse to discuss it, though quite a few visitors have shown a marked interest in the game.
