On Friday, Interplay and Nvidia signed an agreement that will ultimately result in the creation of several 3D games designed to take full advantage of the GeForce 256 and the rest of Nvidia's upcoming graphics processors.
"Interplay is one of the premier entertainment publishers and has a long history of providing the best quality of entertainment software to millions of users," said Dan Vivoli, senior VP of marketing at Nvidia. "Interplay has maintained its leadership position by quickly embracing 3D technology and pushing the limits of game design. By working closely with Interplay's exceptional development teams, we plan on aligning our efforts so that our products provide end users with the most entertaining gaming experience in the graphics industry."
One such game will be Shiny's Sacrifice, which was on display at the Game Developers Conference at several booths, including Nvidia's. Sacrifice is still months away from completion, but from what we saw, the 3D game engine looked very impressive and was undoubtedly using rendering techniques like transform and lighting.
As part of the agreement, future 3D games from Interplay will bear Nvidia's "eye" logo on the box to indicate optimization for the GeForce and future GPUs.
