This morning, processor giant Intel complemented its already robust line of Pentium IIIs with two new CPUs running at 850 and 866MHz. These new Coppermines are aimed at the desktop market and, with L2 cache operating at the same speed as the processor's core, are technically identical to their older Pentium III brethren. The 850MHz Pentium III operates at a bus speed of 100MHz with a clock multiplier of 8.5, while the 866MHz runs at 133MHz FSB with a multiplier of 6.5.
"The Intel Pentium III processor at 866 and 850MHz enables powerful personal computers for running rich software and media, both in the home and in business,'' said Intel VP and general manager Pat Gelsinger.
The new Pentium IIIs are available immediately in systems from vendors like Dell and Intergraph and cost US$765 for the 850MHz version and $776 for the 866MHz variant in quantities of 1,000.
