Internet game rental web site RedOctane.com announced that it is renting import PlayStation 2 games. The e-tailer has all 27 games currently available for the Japanese PlayStation 2 for rent on its web site. The games will rent under the same terms and pricing as the current Dreamcast and PlayStation games - US$4.99 for 10 days. The company also runs the G3 and G1 unlimited game rental programs where consumers can keep a game as long as they like by paying a specific amount every month. Further details on these programs and information on RedOctane's rental library is available on the company's web site.
"For US$9.95 a month, our customers can hold any game they want for as long as they want," said Dean Ku, vice president of marketing at RedOctane.com. "If they don't like the game they ordered, they can just send it back and get another one. Furthermore, we're offering convenience - the convenience of having games delivered straight to your front door, and being able to hold them without a due date."
"The PlayStation 2 is going to be huge. Nearly 1 million PlayStation 2 units sold during its opening weekend in Japan," said Kai Hung, founder and CEO of RedOctane.com. "We want our customers to know that we'll be here and that we're getting ready for the demand. That is why we are adding import PS2 titles to our game selection. We're the first and only company offering import PS2 rentals right now and we will continue to be on the cutting edge."
The web site also rents out a wide range of games for the Sega Dreamcast and Sony PlayStation.
