Interactive Magic revealed to GameSpot News its plans on continuing its relative success with its Great Battles series of historical wargames with a brand-new title, tentatively called Rally Round the Flag, scheduled for release in October.
Rally Round the Flag utilizes the Great Battles of History engine previously used by developer Erudite Software for Interactive Magic's Alexander, Hannibal, and Caesar titles. While set in the American Civil War, Rally will not be considered part of the Great Battles series of games (of which more titles may be forthcoming down the road).
While details are still subject to change, Rally Round the Flag will feature an "array" of battles including:
First Bull Run/Manassas AntietamBrandy StationGettysburgWilderness
Players of the Great Battles of History can expect improvements on the old engine, including random troop reinforcements, new line-of-sight rules, multi-day battles, and battlefield night movement. Troops will be organized at the brigade level, and there will be Internet, LAN, and modem play.
A campaign will also be included, giving the player the ability to play from both sides of the war.
Again, Interactive Magic is aiming for an October release for Rally Round the Flag (the title will almost definitely be altered by then). In the meanwhile, enjoy the four exclusive screenshots we've included, and look on GameSpot for more information soon.
