With so many of us stuck at over home during the past few months due to the COVID-19 pandemic, social viewing apps and extensions have become a popular way to enjoy shows and movies with friends. The third-party Netflix Party extension launched in March, and now Hulu is testing its own social feature.
As reported by Deadline, the function is named Hulu Watch Party and is currently being tested by selected subscribers. It operates in much the same way as Netflix Party, with a chat window appearing to the right of the movie or show, via which a viewing group can talk to each other.

Hulu subscribers able to test the feature will see a Watch Party icon on the Details pages of shows and movies. This sends an invite link to family and friends to join them in the group watch and conversation. Viewers will also be able control their own viewing, with a button marked "click to catch up" allowing them to get back in sync if they fall behind the group due to internet lag or pausing. It's currently unknown how long the test will last for, or when it will be rolled out to all Hulu subscribers.
