How Star Wars: Squadrons Handles In-Game Rewards, Ranks, And Challenges-November 2024
Nov 2, 2024 9:29 AM

EA has revealed how in-game progression and rewards, competitive rankings, and challenges will work in Star Wars: Squadrons. In a blog post, EA reaffirmed that Squadrons "is a self-contained game, where all progression, unlocks and rewards are earned solely through play."

In Squadrons, there are a few ways to progress through the game. You can either go for the game's in-game currencies--Requisition and Glory--or rise through the ranks in Operations.

Now Playing: Star Wars Squadrons - TIE Interceptor Gameplay

By just playing in matches, you'll unlock experience that causes you to level up. With each level you'll earn Requisition, which you can spend to unlock ship components. These components allow you to customize your eight starfighters, tweaking each ship's performance to your ideal standard.

Squadrons will also operate on eight-week-long Operations, which is basically the game's version of a battle pass. Operation Challenges allow you to earn unique cosmetic rewards that are only available for a limited time. Additionally, by participating in Fleet Battles, you'll be able to raise your Operation rank. From lowest to highest, the competitive Operation ranks are Maverick, Hotshot, Hero, Valiant, Legend, and Galactic Ace.

Finally, completing daily challenges nets you Glory--this can be spent to unlock cosmetics for your starfighters and pilots. Unlike the cosmetics tied to Operation Challenges, the cosmetics you can earn with Glory aren't only available for a limited time.

Star Wars: Squadrons is scheduled to release for Xbox One, PS4, and PC on October 2. The game will also be playable in VR on PC and PS4. Taking place after the events of Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, Squadrons sees you play as two pilots--one from the New Republic's Vanguard Squadron and the other from the Empire's Titan Squadron.

Editor's Note: A previous version of this article incorrectly stated that in Star Wars: Squadrons, you played as the New Republic's Rao Highmoon and Empire's Case Kassandora, when players will actually create and name their own pilots. That correction is now reflected in the copy of the article.
