BioWare executive producer Mark Darrah today penned a detailed blog post regarding the status of the studio's long-in-development role-playing game Dragon Age: Inquisition, saying it has "come a long way" since the company last showed it at PAX Prime in August.
Darrah also explained that BioWare has created a "Holiday Build" for the game, that is, a build of the game that staffers can play over holiday break. This build is "as complete as possible" and features the full storyline completely playable from beginning to end.
The Dragon Age: Inquisition Holiday Build also features all gameplay systems working together and some voiceover and music. The build also aims to make sure every class feels distinctive and has technology systems in place, like a tarnish shader.
The build also includes advancements to in-game content like trees, dead creatures, faces, and indoor and outdoor game zones, which are very important for Dragon Age: Inquisition, Darrah said.
"Areas form a huge part of the content in Dragon Age: Inquisition. It is very important to me that the game cover a large variety of locations," Darrah said. "Not only does it expand the possibilities of our storytelling, it also gives us an opportunity to show a lot of different things. In a game that places a lot of emphasis on discovery, this is very crucial."
Dragon Age: Inquisition runs on the Frostbite 3 engine, the technology also behind upcoming games Battlefield 4and Need for Speed: Rivals. The role-playing game was recently delayed one year. It is now due out in fall 2014 for the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PC.
