Horror Streaming Service Shudder Passes Major Milestone
Horror Streaming Service Shudder Passes Major Milestone-October 2024
Oct 21, 2024 5:08 PM

While 2020 has been a bad year for many aspects of the entertainment industry, streaming services have thrived. One of the biggest success stories has been AMC's horror streaming platform Shudder, which has released a variety of acclaimed movies and shows over the past few months, including Host. The service has announced that it now has more than a million subscribers.

According to Shudder, its journey to this subscriber milestone started with the release of the anthology show Creepshow in October 2019, and continued with the acclaimed documentary series Cursed Films and The Last Drive-In with much-loved host Joe Bob Briggs. The British found footage movie Host, which was made during lockdown and released in July, is one of the year's most talked-about movies, while other films include Impetigore, The Room, Z, and The Beach House.

In a statement, AMC Networks SVOD President Miguel Penella said, "The addition of original series and movies turbocharged our growth and turned Shudder into a must-have service for anyone interested in great horror, thriller or supernatural entertainment. Our relentless focus on quality programming, innovative content and finding the best up-and-coming creators has enabled Shudder to break out in the crowded world of subscription services."

Creepshow Season 2 has now started shooting, having been delayed from its initial March production start date. In June, showrunner Greg Nicotero revealed that he was using the downtime to work on scripts for Season 3. Cursed Films is also set to return for a second season. The show focuses on horror movies where the cast and crew members were afflicted by misfortune and tragedy, such as The Omen, Poltergeist, and The Exorcist.
