Oct 28, 2024 6:26 AM

According to a new research report issued by Cowles/Simba Information, the Interactive Entertainment industry is booming and will continue to grow into the next century. It predicts that the market, driven by increased consumer spending and the rise of the Internet, will reach US$11.6 billion in 2001, a 112.9 percent increase from $5.5 billion in 1997.

The results are part of a report entitled Interactive Entertainment 1998: Sizing The Market For Games & Recreation, which was released today. Cowles/Simba predicts that new technologies, including online games, DVD-ROM, and Internet TV (which has been very slow to take off), will grow over the next four years, amounting to combined sales of $3.4 billion in 2001.

Online gaming will also boom, according to the report - becoming a $670 million business in 2001, from its current $58.8 million.
