Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice Update Adds Ray Tracing On Xbox Series X|S-November 2024
Nov 27, 2024 8:37 PM

A next-gen update is now available for the first entry in the Hellblade saga. Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice has been optimized for the Xbox Series X and S, giving players on those consoles access to some new graphical features, along with a suite of other benefits.

A trailer for the Xbox-optimized version of Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice shows off the game's new look in "enriched visuals mode" with ray tracing on. The video's description also reveals that players will be able to select different resolution modes.

While the video hardly details the additional benefits players can look forward to, a new page on the game's site explains all the changes coming with today's update. On Xbox Series X and S, Senua's Sacrifice can be played with ray tracing in the game's enriched visuals mode, although it will only run at 30fps.

Series S players won't have the option for 4K resolution or frame rates above 60fps. In Performance mode, the game runs at 1080p, 60 FPS, while resolution mode presents it at up to 1440p, 30 FPS. Series X players can enjoy Senua's Sacrifice at up to 4K resolution on both the game's enriched and resolution modes at 30fps and 60fps, respectively. Performance mode on the Series X runs the game at up to 1080p and 120fps.

The site also confirmed that today's next-gen update will eventually be coming to PC. The update for that version of the game is currently in development and doesn't have a release date. A next-gen update won't be heading to the PS4 version of the game (which is playable on PS5) either, with "no plans to bring this update to any other platform at this time."

While Senua's Sacrifice is getting a bit of a makeover with today's update, developer Ninja Theory has kept details on Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 close to the chest. Since being revealed at The Game Awards in 2019, the developer has released just one other trailer showing behind-the-scenes footage of the game's development. Hellblade 2 is currently set to release on Xbox Series X|S and PC.
