Hasbro Juices Up CE Platform
Hasbro Juices Up CE Platform-October 2024
Oct 21, 2024 5:17 PM

If you're a gamer with a Windows CE machine, no doubt you're sick of playing Solitare. Luckily, help is on the way.

Hasbro Interactive will roll out its first lineup of games for CE machines beginning in March. At that time the quickly diversifying game company will launch Monopoly and Scrabble for the Windows CE OS. Both titles will sell for US$30. The company has CE-based versions of Trivial Pursuit and Slingo games planned for a 1999 release.

Windows CE is the operating system that runs PDA devices that are often used as companions to your PC. The smaller form factor and longer battery life have made them a popular choice for people who aren't attracted to using notebooks. While the devices are popular, gamers haven't had many options save for a few shareware titles to play on their CE machines.

"The demand for hand-held computer devices with Windows CE is growing dramatically. People want something small that they can use to keep organized while away from the office or home." said Hasbro Interactive president, Tom Dusenberry. "The games we are developing for the Windows CE platform take up little space and provide lots of fun wherever you are. There's no better way to pass time or take a break when you are on the go all the time."

And for the first time, the company will offer downloadable versions of the titles from its online store and retailer's sites. If you don't feel happy about Web transactions, you'll still be able to pick up the titles on retailer's shelves nationally.

This announcement makes Hasbro the first publisher outside of Microsoft to announce games for the smaller Windows CE platform.
