Utilizing the newly acquired Atari assets from JTS Corp. in a way that should surprise no one, Hasbro Interactive announced today that this fall it will release a number of classic Atari titles, including Centipede, in a new lineup of updated Atari classics. The company now has the rights to over 75 game properties, including Centipede, Missile Command, Pong, Breakout, and Tempest. The titles will be released for both the PlayStation and PC.
"We are thrilled that the classic Atari game properties will now be a part of the Hasbro family," Tom Dusenberry, president of Hasbro Interactive, said in a statement. "These ground-breaking games helped pioneer the video game industry. We intend to bring these classics back to life by updating them with the latest technology and interactive game design, while preserving their heart and spirit."
Hasbro's update of Frogger proved successful over the holiday season and continues to be a top seller, and the company hopes to continue that sales success with new versions of more classic games.
GameSpot News covered the sale of the Atari backlist last week. Today's official announcement carries little in the way of substantial additional news.
