Each year, Time picks the 100 most influential people of the year. This year, the venerable magazine is taking its contest online, allowing visitors to select from 200 candidates, including politicians and scientists, along with the odd Asian pop star and celebrity blogger.
Given the ongoing Wii craze (and shortage), it's little surprise its designer is among the Time honorees. Just over a month after he was feted at the 2007 Game Developers Conference, Shigeru Miyamoto is now nominated for the 100 Most Influential People of 2007.
Currently, the iconic designer is the second-highest-rated candidate, with an average ranking of 90 out of 100, just below mock pundit Stephen Colbert's 93 rating. Vote-wise, he's in fourth place with more than 37,000 votes; the top vote-getter is the current King of Thailand, His Majesty Bhumibol Adulyadej, with more than 221,000 virtual ballots. Those wishing to cast their vote for Miyamoto can do so on Time's Web site.
