Update: A Microsoft spokeperson told GameSpot, "We're always looking for talented people to innovate now and in the future. We don't have any further comment on this or any other job posting."
Original Story: Microsoft has plans to expand the Halo series with a "new project line," according to information laid out in a new job posting found online (via NeoGAF). Exactly what this would entail is unclear, but the new hire would work as a publishing senior producer at Microsoft's dedicated Halo studio, 343 Industries, to "help develop a new project line in the Halo universe."
Further details in the posting suggest the producer would be working on games, not one of Halo's many other branches (which range from novels to comics to motorcycle helmets). It's said that the producer may work with both internal and external studios, suggesting 343 Industries might not be (at least entirely) responsible for the development of any games this new project line will consist of.
It seems possible this could be a spin-off game (or games) of some sort. Halo has seen spin-offs before, straying away from the Master Chief-starring games both inside the first-person-shooter genre (Halo 3: ODST and Halo Reach) and outside of it (Halo Wars, Halo: Spartan Assault).
Microsoft already has Halo shooters lined up for both this year (Halo: The Master Chief Collection, coming November 11) and next year (Halo 5: Guardians). Head of Xbox Phil Spencer has expressed interest in reviving Halo Wars in the past, although there's no indication from this posting that such a game is in the works.
Outside of that, Microsoft hasn't given much indication of what its future plans for the series are, though we do know that Halo 4 and Halo 5 are part of a Halo "saga" (rather than the Reclaimer Trilogy Microsoft had previously discussed). GameSpot has contacted Microsoft for comment regarding what this "new project line" is all about and will report back with any details we receive.
What do you think Microsoft and 343 have up their sleeves? What are you hoping it turns out to be? Let us know in the comments below.
