The prize pool for the Halo Championship Series, the official eSports league dedicated exclusively to the popular sci-fi shooter franchise, has doubled the prize pool for its Season 1 finals from $50,000 to $100,000, developer 343 Industries has announced.

  The new prize values:

First place: $50,000Second place: $20,000Third place: $10,000Fourth place: &8,000Fifth/sixth place: $4,000 eachSeventh/eighth place: $2,000 each"One of the most important pieces of feedback we’ve heard is that all players – from amateur to top teams – simply want more opportunities to compete and earn more money in the HCS," 343 Industries Franchise Media Director Che Chou said on Halo's official site. "We greatly understand, not only the importance of regulated prize pools that appropriately reward top competitors, but also the growth of the HCS year over year."

The feedback from the community also prompted 343 Industries and its eSports event partner ESL to make changes to Halo Championship Series' roster rules, production quality, and more, which you can read about in detail here.

Chou also announced that his team has been working with its partners at Iron Gaming on the launch event for Season 2, which will take place between April 17-19.

The Series 1 Finals will take place on March 6-8 at the ESL Arena during PAX East in Boston.
