Guinness World Record launched its brand spankin' new Gamer's Edition at Zavvi in London's Oxford St on Wednesday night.
The event was held in Zavvi's first-floor games area with plenty of gaming paraphernalia to set the scene and get the crowd in the mood. Sadly, the Singstar and Xbox 360 display units were forgotten about on the night--the real star was Guitar Hero III, set up on an Xbox 360 and a funky PlayStation 3 stage. An army of over 200 wannabe guitar heroes came out to be a part of rock history, including a bunch of American Boy Scouts and some rock-themed fans including a younger looking version of Guns 'n' Roses' Slash.
The launch was also joined by The Rev and Snell, formerly of punk band Towers of London and part of The Prodigy's live act, several cast members of the rock musical We Will Rock You, currently performing around the corner in London's West End, and the always lovely Frag Dolls UK.
It wasn't just about the current 2008 edition though, with those present helping to set a new world record of the longest performed Guitar Hero relay marathon, chiming in over two hours. To complete this epic achievement, two players at a time took turns playing one song and then passing onto the next duo, with only a 15-second break between teams and a total of 40 passes between songs.
Also breaking his own record of highest score on Guitar Hero III was the UK's own Luke Albiges, who rocked out with an impressive 444,862 points. The highest Guitar Hero score by a team of six was achieved by Saad and Adam Choudri and their friends, who each took charge of a single button or strum bar and together mustered up a score of 127,067 points.
