My PlayStation 2 has been with me all over the world. I originally bought it when I was in Australia, and it stayed with me while I was in Japan and my friends in Oz would send me over English language games to play, and when I found out that games were the same region in Australia as they were in the UK, it came back with me to the UK as well. I know that there's this whole next-gen gaming thing going on, and I know as someone who works on GameSpot I really should get into it, rather than constantly 'borrowing' consoles from the office. So this Christmas, I decided I was going to get a new console--the only question is which one to get? I mean, presuming I didn't want to pick up a Dreamcast or an original Xbox, I could get myself a Wii, a PlayStation 3, or an Xbox 360.

　　The Wii is obviously the cheapest at £179, although try finding one for that price in stores--or, well, for any price at all right now. The PS3 and the 360 have both recently had price cuts, with the new 40GB PS3 costing £300, and the premium 360 costing £250.

　　So ruling out the Wii because there's pretty much no chance, it was between the 360 and the PS3. In the end, as the prices were so similar, it simply boiled down to the number of games out there--the PS3 is newer, so it just didn't have enough titles to make it a must buy just yet. The 360, on the other hand, now has several titles that I'm intrigued to play--for example, Mass Effect, Eternal Sonata, Dead Rising, Viva Pinata, and Bioshock.

　　Actually, I have a confession to make. Whilst writing this article, I nipped to my local Zavvi, (the high street retail chain formerly known as Virgin), and just bought a 360. For, you know, research purposes.
