Google CEO: There’s Genuine Excitement of Publishers for Stadia, Trying It ‘Completely Wins’ People Over-September 2024

During yesterday's post-Q1 2019 earnings call, Google CEO Sundar Pichai answered a question regarding the excitement game publishers have for the upcoming cloud-based streaming platform, Stadia.

Pichai highlighted that it's genuinely there, particularly after they actually go hands-on with the Stadia technology as that's impressive enough to 'completely win' them over.

I think we see genuine excitement because, I think, they see the opportunity for a shift, a point of inflection, but they realized the technical challenge of pulling something like this off. And so, but once they get their hands on with the technology and then they see the experience, I think, completely wins people over.

And so we are having conversations across the Board and I think people are definitely engaging in a very committed way and they are investing in it and so it’s up to us to bring it all together and have a compelling service later this year and that’s what the team has had done working on.

But I think they want to see our commitment, which is what we demonstrate and they are working hard to make the investments on their side. And so it’s a big joint effort and it’s working well.

Google Stadia is the company's first big initiative in the games industry, after many years of wild speculations. Unveiled at the Game Developers Conference 2019, it aims to deliver triple-A gaming to every device with a screen, from smartphones to tablets, from TVs to all kinds of computers, by streaming games rendered by Google's powerful data centers (which will feature a custom AMD GPU capable of 10.7 teraflops running on Vulkan API and Linux OS).

The estimated launch date is the second half of 2019 in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Western Europe. More details on the lineup of games and the pricing of Stadia are to be revealed at some point in the Summer, possibly at E3.
