The organizers of the Game Developers Conference, to be held March 15-19 in San Jose, are hoping to shed a little light on independent developers, and so they've organized the GDC Independent Games Festival.
Miller Freeman is organizing the festival, which will showcase the winners in a contest involving independent developers who submitted their PlayStation, PC, or Macintosh game designs to a juried panel. Somewhere between ten to 30 games will be pegged "GDC Independent Games Festival picks," and one of those games will be chosen as the festival's grand prize winner. That prize will be worth $5,000 to the game's designers.
Other festival awards will be for technical excellence, artistic achievement, audio, game design, and audience favorite. Developers are asked to submit information to the GDC web site between November 16, 1998, and January 20, 1999, to enter the first round of the competition.
