On Friday October 19, the HMV branch at 129/130 Princes Street will be the first in the UK to get a gaming centre. Called Gaming Zone, the area will measure over 2,000 square feet next to the games department on the lower ground floor.
Twenty-seven Xbox 360 consoles will be wired up to high-def TVs with a range of the latest games for gamers to play--and some preview games too. A Halo 3 tournament will launch the game space on October 19.
To play games, customers sign up for a membership and a game card, and then buy time slots to play--one hour costs £3, and three hours £5.
HMV's head of games, Tim Ellis, commented, "If the HMV gaming zone proves a hit, then we'll consider if there are opportunities to roll out the concept to other stores in the chain."
