Sega GameWorks has a plan to keep people out of the swimming pools and in their establishments this summer. At the very least, it will give sports-game players an excuse to visit GameWorks sites in Seattle, Washington; Ontario, California; Grapevine, Texas; and Tempe, Arizona.
The GameWorks Summer Games competition kicks off this weekend. Throughout the eight weeks of competition, GameWorks will be awarding prizes to top-place finishers in a rotating series of arcade sports games and sims. Players will enter the competition on a first-come, first-served basis, and the top scorers each week will be asked to return to the GameWorks location for head-to-head competition. GameWorks will hand out gold, silver, and bronze medals to the top three finishers each week - gold medalists will take home a package of free movie passes, season sports tickets, and a 12-month GameWorks All-Access Card.
The games featured in the summer-long contest will be Downhill Biker, Sega Rally 2, Baseball's Pitcher's Duel, Air Hockey: Hockey Stadium, Kick-It Soccer, Pinball VIPER, Rapid River, and Virtual Arena Tekken 3.
GameWorks is also holding the Summer Games Sweepstakes, where visitors to all GameWorks locations can register for a chance to win a trip to the 2000 Olympic games in Australia. Coca-Cola is sponsoring the sweepstakes.
