GameStop Raises $2.8 Million for Childhood Cancer Research and Treatment-November 2024
Nov 19, 2024 3:57 PM

Video game retailer GameStop today announced that its "Thanks and Giving" charity drive to support St. Jude Children's Research Hospital was a big success. The company raised $2.8 million during November and December from point-of-sale donations from shoppers. This is well above GameStop's $1 million target.

The money will go toward helping advance the research and treatment of childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases.

Throughout November and December, GameStop and its sister companies like Spring Mobile, Simply Mac, ThinkGeek, Kongregate, and Game Informer gave shoppers/readers the option to donate to the cause. Everyone who donated $1 or more at GameStop received an extra 10 percent trade-in credit for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 games, among other bonuses.

This was the third year that GameStop participated in St. Jude's "Thanks and Giving" campaign. In those three years, GameStop has raised more than $4.2 million for the charity.

St. Jude's national outreach director Marlo Thomas said in a statement that the money will help its doctors and scientists "continue our life-saving work."

You can learn more about St. Jude and make a donation at its website or by calling 1-800-4STJUDE.

GameStop also supports charities like Ronald McDonald Houses and Make-A-Wish, which it donated $1.2 million to in 2015 as part of its latest campaign.
