Our GameSpot Sports Classic series, a look back at some of the best sports videogames of all time, makes it's long-overdue return with our look at one of my all time favorite games: NFL 2K. Back in the late 90s, as Sega was trying to a name for itself with its upstart console, there were only two games that you had to own: Soul Calibur and NFL 2K, a game that really kicked some life back into the football wars that, up until that time, had grown more than a little stale. With innovative gameplay, hot-looking graphics, and great sound, NFL 2K kicked off this generation of console wars with a bang. It's impact won't soon be forgotten, especially these days, when the football world looks much different than it did six years ago.
Did you play NFL 2K? Got any memories of the game to share?
(P.S. -- If you've never done so, be sure and check out our first GameSpot Sports Classic episode: NHL 98. I'm still proud of that one.)
