New research at the University of Rochester has found that young adults who regularly play action-packed video games are better at tracking objects simultaneously and dealing with fast-changing visual information, according to an Associated Press report. A control experiment showed that people who do not normally play games can develop enhanced visual skills when trained to play them.
The Rochester study included two groups of test subjects, with 16 men age 18 to 23 in one test and 17 separate individuals in a second. The researchers said more study would be needed to determine why video games have this effect.
