Today, Microsoft kicked off a new promotion where you can get a free disc-based game when you buy an Xbox One.
First announced last week, the promotion is available only in the United Stated at participating retailers like Target, GameStop, Best, Buy, Toys 'R Us, Amazon, and Wal-Mart and online at the Microsoft store, but the deal isn't limited to games published by Microsoft. You can pick any Xbox One game available in retail, and it applies to Xbox One system bundles as well. So you can pick up the Xbox One Forza Motorsport 5 or Madden NFL 15 Bundle and still get a free game worth $60 or less.
The only major limitations on the deal are that it's not good for preorder games, and it can't be combined with most other offers. In addition, refurbished Xbox One consoles and used games are not eligible. The promotion is valid until, Wednesday, September 17.
On the Microsoft store, the company is looking to one-up other retailers with an additional incentive: $50 off the console. Supplies are limited (and availability for individual bundles fluctuates as they sometimes go out of stock), but you can definitely get the $50 plus game combo for the standard $400 console.
The introduction of the Xbox One sales promotion comes as the busy holiday release season kicks off with Destiny this Tuesday. The Xbox One, at potentially around 5 million units sold, is lagging behind Sony's PlayStation 4, which has sold 10 million units to date.
