As reported previously, Shoeisya will release Macross M3 for the Sega Dreamcast. GameSpot has learned that the original staff from the Macross TV series is involved with the development of the game. The story behind the game is set in a world in between the time periods that Macross and Macross 7 take place in. The developer is crafting an original story for the game, which will also feature new characters and new mechs.
The game itself is a mission-based 3D shooter. In the battle sequences, the control scheme is similar to that of a fighting game, and players can perform a technical command that leads to a special attack with a cutscene. The game is being developed by Warashi and will be released later this year in Japan. The Robotech series, which is more familiar to US fans, is based on Macross.
